Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Steve Marriott is buzzing about. He's 5'5", full of nervous energy, dressed in a scoop-necked long-sleeved T-shirt, brushed velvet bell-bottoms and white stack-heel shoes. Lead guitarist Peter Frampton emerges from his caravan wearing a green suit from Mr Freedom.

Over the final decade of his life, Marriott struggled to make ends meet, agreeing to Humble Pie reunions and starting pub bands back in the UK (Steve Marriott and the DTs, Steve Marriott's Next Band). He died in a house fire in April 1991, at age 44. One of the responding firefighters was a fan. Finding the body, he said, was like walking down.

Only when singer Steve Marriott died in a 1991 house fire - started by his own cigarette - did the band's name return to the front pages, and again last year with an all-star 10th anniversary show. Even then, Marriott's previous band The Small Faces was the name most often mentioned in the obituaries.
